Electronic Instrumentation & Control

Electronic Instrumentation and Control Engineering is a fast growing branch in the field of Electronics because of its interdisciplinary nature. It has wide scope in all industrial processes and applications. E.I.&C. Engineers are in full demand not only in process industries like Thermal / Nuclear power plant, Chemical / Steel / Fertilizer plants, Mines, Petrochemicals, Oil Refineries and Paint / Textile / Paper / Cement Industries but also in Automobile Industries but also in Automobile Industry due to increased automation. With changing times, many processes have become more and more automated and a need for a closer monitoring of inputs and responses has been felt. As a result the instruments at the component and sub-system levels also need to become more and more integrated. EIC branch is full cognizance of this situation and is catering to the need of the present demand.

At JNIT we believe that knowledge without practical exposure is like a bird with broken wings. To put the knowledge to its best use students are given multiple opportunities to polish their expertise with handing and maintaining equipment. The labs of EIC department work on application -oriented approach. They provide the information about the various types of electrical equipment used in daily life and the knowledge of electric power technology that can be directly applied in industry. The advanced labs of this department are as follows:

1.Electronic Measurement Instrumentation Laboratory
2.Electrical Engineering Laboratory
3.Electrical Electronic Workshop
4.Measurement Lab
5.Electronic Instrumentation Lab
6.Control Lab
7.Process Control Lab
8.Analytical Instrumentation Lab
9.Applied Instrumentation Lab
10.Analytical Environment Instrumentation Lab
11.MATLab Simulation Lab I & II
12.Transducers Instrumentation Lab
13.Micro-Controller Lab

EIC branch of Engineering pertains to one of the most important functions in any industry. With the continuous advancements in the area Electronics, Communications, Information Technologies and Software, there has been considerable development in Instrumentation and Control Engineering. These advancements are being extensively used for plant automation, robotics, aircraft instrumentation, space crafts etc.
Electronics and Instrumentation Engineers are required wherever industrial process control or industrial automation requirements exist and the scope is large. With growth of the process industry across all segments of the economy, Instrumentation engineers are in great demand.
The field of Instrumentation has undergone rapid changes in recent times with the advent of real time applications, high speed computing, data acquisition and feedback systems, high speed telemetry, advanced remote control systems to name a few.
Healthcare field of sophisticated medical electronics equipment e.g. CT scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging. With the healthcare sector growing rapidly, requirement of medical diagnostic products would be huge.
Graduates of this discipline find employment in automated production process industries like steel, cement, automobiles, rubber, food products and packaging. CNC controlled machines and equipment, computer aided manufacturing, robotics and automation are all growing and expanding.
Another aspect of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering lies in the engineer’s involvement in field of Automation. Automation being one of the latest trend in all Industries, is therefore highly in need for expertise in the field of Electronics and Instrumentation to achieve the requirements. Control and Optimization is another important criterion in many Industries. Electronics and Instrumentation engineers having good exposure in these areas will be highly effective in solving various critical needs of the Industries Focus Areas Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering is a versatile field focuses on areas like Telecommunication, Robotics, Biomedical, Computer Control in Process applications, VLSI, Fiber Optics etc… Job Oppurtunities Electronics and Instrumentation Engineers have a bright future ahead of them as they are needed by almost all Industries in various cadres like Design, Development, Fabrication, Inspection, Quality control, Maintenance and Service and so on. Most Software MNC’s also feel the importance of Automation in Electronics background and they are looking for recruiting Electronics and Instrumentation Engineers for their mutual .
Entry level aspirants can get a starting salary of a minimum of Rs. 2.5 to 4.0 lakhs. With more experience, or established as an independent consultant one could earn more. Senior engineers can earn  anywhere between Rs. 7.0 lakhs to Rs. 10 lakhs per annum, depending on individual competencies and industry one is working in. Those at management levels in large automated plants can earn even higher in reputed private sector Indian companies and Multinational companies.
